Object Management Group Releases Practical Guide to Cloud Deployment Technologies v1.0
Discussion paper from the OMG Cloud Working Group

NEEDHAM, Mass. – April 23, 2019 – The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, today published version 1.0 of the Practical Guide to Cloud Deployment Technologies. This new Guide defines and positions cloud technologies that can be used to deploy cloud-based applications and services, and clarifies how they differ in their implementation and use. It is available for download at https://www.omg.org/cloud/deliverables/Practical-Guide-to-Cloud-Deployment-Technologies.pdf.

Many organizations will need to implement more than one cloud deployment technology option. Accordingly, selecting the best option to support workloads while controlling complexity can be a daunting task. The Guide will help developers, architects, and IT leaders make informed decisions in order to select the best technology for their specific needs. These technologies span storage, network, and compute services. The Practical Guide focuses on compute options.

The main sections of the Guide address:

  • What is a Cloud Deployment Technology?
  • Definition of Cloud Deployment Technologies
  • Cloud Deployment Technology Use Cases and Implementation
  • Selecting Cloud Deployment Technologies
  • Summary of Keys to Success
