Object Management Group Appoints Larry L. Johnson Vice President and Technical Director

Needham, MA – June 12, 2017 – The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, today named Larry L. Johnson as the consortium’s vice president and technical director. Reporting to OMG CEO and Chairman, Dr. Richard Mark Soley, Larry will have overall responsibility for managing the OMG technology adoption process. He will also chair the Architecture Board, the group of elected distinguished technical contributors from OMG member organizations that oversees the technical consistency of OMG specifications.

According to Dr. Soley, “Larry’s 20-year record contributing to OMG's work and expertise guiding corporations in their systems engineering projects makes him a valuable addition to the OMG staff. In this role, he will make significant contributions to OMG’s overall future direction. As only the third technical director in OMG's 30-year history, Larry offers continuity and energy to the post.” He added, “Larry is taking over the role from Andrew Watson. Andrew has been a trusted leader and has added tremendous depth and expertise through the OMG technology adoption process. We want to thank Andrew for his leadership and guidance for the more than 20 years.”

Mr. Johnson has been active in OMG since 1996, participating in the transition of OMG to focus on Model Driven Architecture®, chairing several task forces, including those for Manufacturing and Industrial Systems and Government, and has been a member of the OMG Board of Directors for more than 10 years. In addition to his active OMG participation and frequent speaking engagements at enterprise architecture events, Larry has also held technical leadership positions at Texas Instruments and MSC Software. Most recently, he consulted with U.S. Government agencies including the Office of Management and Budget and the National Archives and Records Administration on the collaborative development of systems and solution architecture, and OMG specifications supporting them.

“I look forward to contributing to the continued evolution of enterprise integration standards and ensuring that OMG specifications remain second to none,” said Johnson. “OMG has published pioneering specifications for a wide range of technologies and an even wider range of industries, including the middleware specifications, Data-Distribution Service™CORBA® as well as modeling standards such as BPMN™ and UML®. OMG's evolving focus on vertical market standards in financial services, important contributions in Industrial IoT and semantic technology and data modeling will be a particular focus for me in the coming years. OMG is a thought-leader in enterprise architecture and standards adoption and I’m excited to transition from member representative to technical director.”

Larry holds a master's degree in Chemical Physics from Indiana University Bloomington and a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois.
