Object Management Group Members Issued Requirements for Systems Safety, Model-Driven Interoperability and Business Architecture Standards
Proposals for Technical Debt Measure and Data-Distribution Standards Also Published

Needham, MA - April 10, 2017 - The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, held its quarterly Technical Meeting from March 20-24 at the Hyatt Regency Reston hotel in Reston, VA, USA. The meeting was sponsored by No MagicOrbus SoftwareRTI and Sparx Systems. Members voted to issue detailed requirements for three specifications:

  • Safety and Reliability for UML® RFP - seeks proposals for a UML profile that provides OMG SysML® with capabilities to incorporate safety and reliability information into system models used during the design of safety-critical systems ranging from medical infusion pumps to cars, aeroplanes and spacecraft. Incorporating these capabilities into SysML® will allow the automation of many common, repetitive tasks required during the design and certification of safety-critical systems, and in doing so increase the correctness of, and confidence in, these systems. The Letter of Intent deadline is June 15, 2017 and the submission deadline is August 14, 2017.

  • The Business Architecture Core Metamodel (BACM) RFP - solicits proposals for a single integrated metamodel of business architecture concepts, with business capabilities as the core element to which all the other elements are connected. The Letter of Intent deadline is September 11, 2017 and the submission deadline is February 19, 2018.

  • Model-Driven Message Interoperability™ (MDMI®) V2 RFP - seeks proposals to reduce or eliminate the need for point-to-point message translation in systems-of-systems through the use of a common semantic construct - a "referent index" - which enables automated data transformation between data sources and targets. The Letter of Intent deadline is January 31, 2018 and the submission deadline is February 19, 2018.

Members also issued two draft specifications for public comment:

  • Automated Technical Debt Measure RFC - establishes a standard for automating a measure of Technical Debt that can be computed by source code analysis tools. Public responses should be returned no later than May 8, 2017.

  • DDS™ XML RFC - consolidates various specifications that have defined XML syntax to represent particular subsets of DDS-related resources into a single document. Public comments should be returned no later than May 8, 2017.
