Object Management Group Approves Open Robotics Standard Created by Japan Embedded Systems Technology Association
Needham, MA and Tokyo, Japan - April 11, 2016 - The Object Management Group® (OMG®) and the Japan Embedded Systems Technology Association (JASA) are pleased to announce the adoption of the Hardware Abstraction Layer for Robotic Technology™ (HAL4RT™) specification as an official OMG standard. HAL4RT provides the base portion of a software platform for robotics and control systems to run applications on different hardware. By standardizing on HAL4RT, device makers, device users, and software users will be able to port or reuse drivers on different robotics hardware.
OMG is an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium. JASA is an open membership, not-for-profit embedded systems industry consortium in Japan. The vote to adopt took place last month at OMG's quarterly Technical Meeting in Reston VA.
According to OMG Chairman and CEO, Dr. Richard Soley, "Working with JASA has helped us foster stronger ties with the robotics community. We congratulate JASA on its work developing the standard which will result in improved quality, lower costs and improved productivity for anyone interested in robotic and embedded software development."
