OMG Creates SDN Working Group; Issues RFPs and RFI at D.C. Metro Meeting

Needham, MA- 03-27-2013- The Object Management Group (OMG®) held its quarterly technical meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, VA from March 18th-March 22nd. The meeting was sponsored by: No Magic, PrismTech, Accelare, Sparx Systems, Remedy IT, and Modeliosoft.

During the week, the Middleware and Related Services (MARS) Platform Task Force created the Software Defined Networking (SDN) Working Group. The group is currently seeking members to help set a vendor-neutral global standard for SDN based on an open multi-stakeholder model with consensus and meritocracy.

OMG also issued two Requests for Proposals (RFP) at the meeting. These RFPs will be the requirements documents for new OMG specifications. All interested parties are invited to submit proposed specifications in response to these requirement documents. The RFPs are for:

  • RIA Dynamic Component Model
  • Dependability Assurance Framework for Safety-Sensitive Consumer Devices

A Request for Information (RFI) was also issued during the week for the Contract Information Exchange Model. Interested parties in the technology industry and academia are encouraged to submit by September 3rd, 2013.

During the technical meeting, the OMG Board of Directors adopted four new specifications. These specifications were:

  • UML Profile for BPMN 2 Processes
  • Case Management Process Modeling (CMPM)
  • Test Information Interchange Format (TestIF)
  • XML Telemetric & Command Exchange (XTCE) US Government Satellite Conformance Profile

The Board also voted to adopt seven Finalization and Revision Task Force reports. These reports are:

  • VSIPL 1.4 and VSIPL++ 1.2 FTF
  • Second Java 5 language PSM for DDS FTF
  • Second ISO/IEC C++ DDS PSM
  • Date-Time Vocabulary FTF
  • ReqIF 1.1 RTF
  • UPDM 2.1 RTF
  • hData REST Binding for RLUS 1.0 FTF
